Lama Interviews

Lama Interviews

Within the Tibetan Buddhist tradition, the relation between a teacher (lama) and student supports the student’s meditation practices as well as inquiry into the purpose and progress of the student’s meditation practices. An interview with a KTD lama (teacher) is a confidential opportunity to explore the questions that the student has about their practice and about the next step the student should take in their practice of Dharma.

An interview lasts 10-15 minutes. The student usually enters the interview room with a white scarf (kata) offering and an envelope for a monetary offering to the lama. If the lama speaks only Tibetan, a translator will also be present in the interview room to translate the student’s questions and the lama’s replies.
